    2018 Alpine Loop Route Announcement

    The Alpine Loop – Going Back to its Roots In 2018, the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo will see its namesake route, the Alpine Loop, return to it’s original path up and over Shenandoah Mountain on Reddish Knob Road from Sugar Grove, West Virginia. The course adjustment will remove Forest Road 85, otherwise known as the Dark Side Climb, from the route after five years of use. Organizers cite degrading conditions on the Forest Road and a desire to respond to participant feedback as the primary motivator for the change.     Returning as classic routes for the 2018 Alpine Loop Gran Fondo, there are two ways to experience the renowned riding of the central Shenandoah Valley: The Valley View Challenge and Mt Solon Metric Century!     For the 2018 Alpine Loop Gran Fondo, there are two ways to experience the challenge of Shenandoah Mountain without having to take on the dirt road climbs of the Alpine Loop: the Shenandoah Mountain Adventure and the Shenandoah Mountain Century. 2017 Training Ride on Course

Group Training Expedition: Sunday, August 27, 2017 You are invited join in a group training ride designed to help ready riders for the Alpine Loop, Shenandoah Mountain Century and Shenandoah Mountain Adventure routes of the 2017 Alpine Loop Gran Fondo. At the training event, participants who are ramping up for the Alpine Loop should be prepared to tackle a 71-mile ride with 7,000+ feet of climing, including unpaved roads. Equipment should be suitable for the conditions.
