2019 Event Waiver

All riders will be required to sign an event waiver in order to participate in the 2018 Alpine Loop Gran Fondo. Waivers will be available at Rider Sign-in and Packet Pickup.

Bib numbers will be assigned on Friday, September 27, afternoon, posted at AlpineLoopGranFondo.com and displayed at Sign-In and Packet Pickup (Find out when and where packet pickup will take place by clicking here.)

The following is optional. If you prefer, you can fill out your waiver in advance by following the instructions at the bottom of this page.

Participants can collect someone else’s participant bags only if they bring a waiver that has been signed in advance by the other participant.

WAIVERS THAT ARE NOT PRINTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING STANDARDS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. (REMEMBER, BLANK WAIVERS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON SITE.)

BEFORE PRINTING A 2019 EVENT WAIVER, PLEASE NOTE:
For legal purposes, many states require documents of a legal purpose to be printed in a font of not less than 10 points. These documents have been created with that requirement in mind. However, Adobe Acrobat or your printer settings may scale your document down to it’s own margins, thereby reducing the print to a size that may render the legality of this document void. For your protection, take a moment as you print this document to ensure that printer scaling is turned off. Follow these steps if you are unsure:
Click the “I Agree” button below.
Once the document opens in Acrobat, press ‘File’ > ‘Print’.
The printer dialog box will appear.
Ensure that the ‘Page Scaling’ option is set to ‘None’.
Ensure that the box for ‘auto-rotate and center pages’ is checked.
Press the ‘Print’ button.
Please note that options on printers may vary by model and by the software that the printer uses.

I have read and understand the printing instructions. If yes, 2019 ALPINE LOOP GRAN FONDO WAIVER.

THE EVENT ORGANIZER WILL NOT PROVIDE TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO ASSIST WITH PRINTING THIS EVENT WAIVER IN ADVANCE. BLANK WAIVERS WILL BE AVAILABLE ONSITE.

2019 Bib # Assignments – Sign-In Tips

2019 Alpine Loop Gran Fondo Onsite Sign-In and Packet Pick Up will take place:

Saturday, September 28, 2-6 p.m.
Brothers Craft Brewing Brewery and Taproom
800 N Main Street,
Harrisonburg, Virginia

Sunday, September 29, 6-7:30 a.m.

Turner Pavilion / Start & Finish Line Festival Location
228 S Liberty Street, Harrisonburg, Virginia

For those able to, please make every effort to sign in on Saturday. Event-day sign-in is for those unable to arrive on Saturday. Do not wait!

At Sign-In you will to do two things before approaching the Registration Tables:

  • Sign a USA Cycling Waiver and Release
  • Lookup your bib # on lists provided, and write it on the upper corner of your Waiver.

YOU DO NOT NEED A USA CYCLING LICENSE – ANNUAL OR ONE-DAY – TO PARTICIPATE. (However, USAC license holders may be eligible for supplemental medical insurance coverage.)

To make the sign-in process simpler for yourself, you can do either or both prior to arriving:

Riders can collect someone else’s number and packet IF: they bring the absent rider’s signed waiver and release with them. Please do not “do your friend a favor” and collect his/her number and packet without asking them first – this leads to confusion.

After you complete the Sign-In process, riders who purchased additional merchandise, jerseys and meal tickets will receive those items at the Merchandise section of the registration area.

Please remember, event t-shirts were guaranteed onsite to participants who registered by September 16. Remainders will be available while supplies last. Event t-shirts will not be mailed to riders who do not attend the event.

Any unclaimed jerseys purchased will be mailed following the event, shipping charges may apply if you are in an extremely far-flung location.

2019 // Gravel and Mountains Training Weekend

Created in response to the requests of Alpine Loop Gran Fondo participants, this road cycling weekend will help ready riders for the mountains of the Shenandoah Mountain Adventure and Shenandoah Mountain Century, and the gravel of the Alpine Loop routes of the 2019 Alpine Loop Gran Fondo and similar events.

Taking place over two days, August 24-25, the training weekend will include training-based strategies, onsite clinic-style instruction, and on-course training rides to help attain your best performance. Topics will include performance, training, nutrition, course-specific instruction, equipment and setup.

On both days of the training weekend, Jeremiah Bishop will lead rides with assistance from other Harrisonburg-based professional cycling guides. The rides will be fully supported with cycling snacks, a variety of sports drinks and water, fruit, and sag vehicles.

This training weekend is a great opportunity for you to get a glimpse of some steeps climbs and/or dirt roads of the 2019 Alpine Loop Gran Fondo, including two of the timed KOM segments. It’s timed to provide a great training boost in preparation for the Gran Fondo. If you can’t participate in the Gran Fondo, this training weekend will be a great adventure in and of itself.

On Saturday, all riders will complete a 36-mile route that includes the first 10 and final 18 miles of the Alpine Loop, Shenandoah Mountain Century and Shenandoah Mountain Adventure courses of the 2019 Alpine Loop Gran Fondo, including the Mole Hill KOM segment where we are sure to have some fun! Alpine Loop riders will see a stretch of unpaved road where Jeremiah Bishop will give additional instruction on gravel riding. Following the training ride, Jeremiah will lead the entire group in a training-based discussion; covering fitness, performance, nutrition, equipment and setup, and allowing a good amount of time for individual and group-specific questions. Training ride and discussion officially wrap up by 5:30 p.m. but continue as long as you like to talk training.

Following the training ride and discussion, we will stay at Shenadoah Bicycle Company’s patio for drinks and appetizers (5:30) and a build-your-own burrito meal (beginning at 6:30) p.m.

On Sunday, riders who are training for the Alpine Loop should be prepared to ride 81 miles with 7,000+ feet of climbing – including unpaved steep surfaces. Exact route will be e-mailed prior to the ride.

On Sunday, riders who are training for the Shenandoah Mountain Adventure and Shenandoah Mountain Century should be prepared for a 61-mile ride with 6,000-feet of climbing on paved mountain climbs. Route will include the climb up Shenandoah Mountain’s Moyers Gap Road from the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo. Exact route will be e-mailed prior to the ride.

On Sunday, after a warmup through the Valley, the ride will make its way up some great mountain roads. The first climb will treat participants to spectacular scenery. We will divide into two groups which will be based on participant’s desired ride length; and ultimate training goals: the Alpine Loop, Shenandoah Mountain Century or Shenandoah Mountain Adventure. Throughout the ride, you’ll have access to full support from SAG vehicles and enjoy the guidance and expertise of local cycling pro’s and seasoned Alpine guides. At the ride’s completion, you’ll be treated to a late afternoon meal, relax, recover and enjoy discussing training tips and preparation for the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo with Jeremiah and other professional cyclists.
