2019 Bib # Assignments – Sign-In Tips

2019 Alpine Loop Gran Fondo Onsite Sign-In and Packet Pick Up will take place:

Saturday, September 28, 2-6 p.m.
Brothers Craft Brewing Brewery and Taproom
800 N Main Street,
Harrisonburg, Virginia

Sunday, September 29, 6-7:30 a.m.

Turner Pavilion / Start & Finish Line Festival Location
228 S Liberty Street, Harrisonburg, Virginia

For those able to, please make every effort to sign in on Saturday. Event-day sign-in is for those unable to arrive on Saturday. Do not wait!

At Sign-In you will to do two things before approaching the Registration Tables:

  • Sign a USA Cycling Waiver and Release
  • Lookup your bib # on lists provided, and write it on the upper corner of your Waiver.

YOU DO NOT NEED A USA CYCLING LICENSE – ANNUAL OR ONE-DAY – TO PARTICIPATE. (However, USAC license holders may be eligible for supplemental medical insurance coverage.)

To make the sign-in process simpler for yourself, you can do either or both prior to arriving:

Riders can collect someone else’s number and packet IF: they bring the absent rider’s signed waiver and release with them. Please do not “do your friend a favor” and collect his/her number and packet without asking them first – this leads to confusion.

After you complete the Sign-In process, riders who purchased additional merchandise, jerseys and meal tickets will receive those items at the Merchandise section of the registration area.

Please remember, event t-shirts were guaranteed onsite to participants who registered by September 16. Remainders will be available while supplies last. Event t-shirts will not be mailed to riders who do not attend the event.

Any unclaimed jerseys purchased will be mailed following the event, shipping charges may apply if you are in an extremely far-flung location.

Loopie Partners with 2019 Alpine Loop Gran Fondo

Commemorate Your Cycling Achievement with Personalized Printed Artwork

Cyclists can celebrate their completion of the 2019 Alpine Loop Gran Fondo with a personalized Loopie print – a beautiful and lasting reminder of a great day on the bike.

A Loopie is an accurate but artistic representation of your ride, including mapping, elevation, distance and speed. Combining the aesthetics of fine art with elegant data visualization, the result is a personal and permanent reminder of an epic ride.

Loopie uses GPS data to create beautiful and personalized printed artwork. Each print is an accurate but artistic visualization of the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo cycling route of choice, with data that is unique to each cyclist.

AlpineLoopie_01

Loopies highlight the major climbs and locations along the routes of the Gran Fondo, including the Prostate Cancer Awareness Project KOM summits: featuring KOM times (personalized with “QOM” stamps for female participants). A personalized data set with individuals’ key ride information creates the ultimate reminder of a great day in the saddle.

Each Alpine Loop Gran Fondo Loopie is personalized with the cyclist’s name, finishing time, average speed and KOM/QOM times.

Group Training Expedition: Sunday, August 27, 2017

You are invited join in a group training ride designed to help ready riders for the Alpine Loop, Shenandoah Mountain Century and Shenandoah Mountain Adventure routes of the 2017 Alpine Loop Gran Fondo.

At the training event, participants who are ramping up for the Alpine Loop should be prepared to tackle a 71-mile ride with 7,000+ feet of climing, including unpaved roads. Equipment should be suitable for the conditions.

Riders training for the Shenandoah Mountain Century and Shenandoah Mountain Adventure can expect a 61-mile ride with 6,000 feet of climbing on entirely paved roads.

During the ride, you’ll have access to full support from SAG vehicles and enjoy the guidance and expertise of local cycling pro’s and seasoned Alpine guides.

At the ride’s completion, enjoy a meal, relax, recover and enjoy discussing training tips and preparation with Jeremiah and other professional cyclists.

This training ride is a great opportunity to get a glimpse of some steep climbs and dirt roads of the 2017 Alpine Loop Gran Fondo. It’s timed to provide a great training boost in preparation for the Gran Fondo. If you can’t participate in the ‘Fondo, this ride is a great adventure in and of itself!

Registration will be active through Wednesday, August 23, or until the event reaches capacity, whichever happens first.

NEW 2016 “King of the Hill” Contest

New for 2016 – Participants in the 36-mile Valley View Challenge and 62-mile Mt Solon Metric Century routes of the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo can attempt to clock their fastest time up Mole Hill and earn the distinction of King and Queen of the Hill. A new timed segment for 2016, the Mole Hill challenge will include .6 miles and 145 feet of climbing with sustained grades over 8 percent.

An enduring feature of the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo and located just a few miles before the finish line, Mole Hill tempts riders with a short but steep climb in the middle of the otherwise rolling Shenandoah Valley terrain. The solitary hill is actually the eroded remnant of a volcano – one of the east coast’s earliest – formerly active approximately 47 million years ago.

King and Queen of the Hill distinctions will be recognized at the Finish Line Festival for each route’s overall male and female finishers. Prizes to be announced.

The Mole Hill timing segment will also be incorporated into the Prostate Cancer Awareness Project King of the Mountains competition, adding a second and third timed segment to the contest for riders in the Shenandoah Mountain and Alpine Loop routes, respectively.
