2023 Volunteers Needed

Community, camaraderie and encouragement are at the heart of the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo. Just like riders, volunteer participants are a big part of this event!

Sign up opportunities will continued to be added/embedded and updated through the first week of September. Check back for more live links, coming soon.

From pre-event preparations, to day-of excitement and after-party celebrations, volunteers have many special talents to share and roles to fill.

In 2023, 100% of volunteer tasks will take place entirely outdoors.

Thank you for your interest in supporting the event and it’s charitable mission!

Here is an overview of available volunteer opportunities for the 2023 Alpine Loop Gran Fondo. To be directed to specific opportunities, read on:

Rest Stations are important stops along the Alpine Loop, Shenandoah Mountain Adventure, Shenandoah Mountain Century, Mt Solon Metric Century and Valley View Challenge routes; providing riders with food and drink, minor mechanical assistance and parts. When the ride is complete, what cyclists remember most about the Rest Stations are the incredible support and enthusiast encouragement provided by the Volunteers.

Sign up to assist:
Thorn Spring Park Rest Station
Brandywine Volunteer Fire Department Rest Station
Sugar Grove Rest Station
Briery Branch Community Center

Volunteers are encouraged to drive their personal vehicles along the route to assist at Rest Stations, where you can also cheer for the riders who are special to you.

Spectator/drivers are asked not to follow individual riders along the course; instead select Rest Station where you can connect with your special person on the course.

Volunteers who drive a vehicle capable of carrying bicycles are asked to check in with the Rest Station Manager before departing, in case a cyclist needs to be returned to the Finish Line Festival. For additional flexibility, please consider driving a vehicle with bicycle carrying capacity.

Course Marshals will be stationed at intersections and other locations along the routes to direct and caution cyclists. Some of these tasks (downtown course marshals) can be handled by cyclists who will also participate in the event – often in exchange for a partially discounted entry fee.

Registration Volunteers are needed in the days leading up to the event and on event day. These roles are often filled by riders who will participate in the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo – often in exchange for a partially discounted.
(e-mail Erin@ AlpineLoopGranFondo.com for entry details)

Sign up to serve volunteer at:
Packet Pickup Volunteer on Saturday, Sept. 23 location to-be-determined
Packet Pickup Volunteer on Sunday, Sept. 24  at the Turner Pavilion (Event Start Location)

Venue Setup / Festival Volunteers get to experience the amazing transformation of the Turner Pavilion into the setting for the Finish Line Festival. In just 2 hours, this great team of helpers sets up the Finish Line, readies tables and chairs, decorates the Pavilion, unveils the finisher medals and Swiss Bells, and places the bike racks – all in anticipation of the day’s cycling finishers. Throughout the day, other volunteers can help maintain the venue, distribute KOM jerseys, and assist with breakdown. Sign up to serve as a Venue Volunteer.

Volunteers will receive an event t-shirt, as available, if sizing allows.

If you are a team or individual who wants to lend your support in another way, please e-mail Contact@AlpineLoopGranFondo.com to share your interest and talents.

2023 Fundraisers Ride Inspired

The Alpine Loop Gran Fondo has a multi-faceted charitable mission, a major component of which is through partnership with the Cancer Journeys Foundation Prostate Cancer Awareness Project. Each year, participants are invited to join in the optional fundraising efforts in support of this mission; and each year fundraising riders show up with amazing dedication, purposeful goals, and inspired leadership. Every year we say it, and every year we mean it with renewed awe: these fundraising participants are amazing!

2023 fundraisers are rallying contributions through September 25. Their stories and fundraising pages are featured at PledgeReg.com where everyone is invited to share in their inspiration.

The Prostate Cancer Awareness Project aims to significantly increase prostate cancer survivorship by dramatically increasing the rate of early detection, with the objective that that no man experiences a surprise, post-metastasis prostate cancer diagnosis.

As the presenting sponsor of the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo, Cancer Journeys Foundation shows its dedication to cancer survivorship, raising awareness about prostate cancer screening and early detection, and encouraging healthy lifestyle choices. The organization hosts the annual Prostate Cancer Awareness Project Mountains and Sprint Contests, awarding winners jerseys to age group and overall champions in a variety of categories.

Cancer Journeys Foundation CEO Robert Hess emphasizes how important events like the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo are for the mission of prostate cancer awareness. “The conversations you have with the men in your life, in your social groups, about prostate cancer, and taking an annual test; that’s incredibly valuable to what The Prostate Cancer Awareness Project is trying to accomplish.”

Through partnership with the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo, The Prostate Cancer Awareness Project has funded and maintained ProstateTracker.org a free and anonymous PSA tracking tool. Every participant and additional fundraiser has shared in this effort and are invited to use and share ProtateTracker.org with all the men in their lives.
